I took a vacation—a real, honest-to-goodness vacation. Out of the country and everything. Of course, when I got back, I needed a break from all the traveling, but that’s another story.
The first day, I went through withdrawal. The second day, I only thought about what I was missing a few times. By the third day, I could pass on the urge to post a “Wish you were here” note to Facebook.
By the fifth day, I felt free. I could be in charge of my phone instead of the other way around. I could choose not to check my email every 15 minutes. What a concept!
Easing back into the work that piled up while I was gone has been a bit of a struggle, but every once in a while, when I feel the freedom of vacation fading, I’ll turn off my mobile and close my email tabs, even if it’s just for an hour while I get other pressing tasks done. Sandy beaches and sunshine can’t be far away.
